Sacred Art without God?

The word Art comes from the Latin stem ar which means to fit together. The word sacred implies being devoted or dedicated to a deity. And the word God could be taken to mean the summit of human happiness. These etymologies reflect the profound necessity humankind has for defining our history and religion through art. At least up until the last 500 years, art and God have been unmistakably linked. The purpose and inspiration for devotional art has traditionally been to join or bind together our physical and spiritual worlds.

Actually, the English word “art” derives from Latin “ars” = “skill”.
